Manly - Presbyterian Women’s Association

The PWA Manly has been a worshipping part of St Andrew’s for over 100 years (since 1906). We continually draw inspiration and strength from God, so that together we can meet the challenges of the future through shared and dedicated endeavour, remembering it is the Lord Jesus Christ we serve.

Manly PWA is a branch of the PWA of Australia in the state of NSW. We meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 10.30 am in the church hall for a time of prayer, business and fellowship. We often invite a guest speaker to address us at our meetings. We have about 20 members in the Manly branch. Members are represented on standing and special committees areas (see below).

Manly’s contribution to State Committees
a) The Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union
This committee is concerned with matters relating to world mission. The committee keeps in touch with missionaries through newsletters. This committee informs branches of missionary news and activities.

b) The Dorcas Standing Committee
We prepare sandwiches Bi monthly for the park patrol (feeding the homeless in the parks). Dorcas promotes the social outreach of the church. Our branch helps support aged care, chaplaincy in the children’s hospitals, refuge centers and organizes hospital visits for country members in city hospitals.

c) The Home Mission and Church Extension Standing Committee
Is concerned with supporting the work of the ministry and mission department. We help support the committee’s various projects with prayer and an annual donation. Some of the projects include support to the Presbyterian inland patrols, students studying for Ministry and church plantings in NSW.

d) The Christian Education Standing Committee
Seeks to assist branches and members of the PWA in delivering to people of all ages the gospel of the living Christ. Each year we present a Time Out series for women to attend. Manly PWA assists with funds to this committee.

e) Presbyterian Market Committee
The Presbyterian Market committee runs an annual market day (possible the largest gathering of Presbyterian Women in the State). Manly branch assist financially and with practical help, we man the Babies Stall. This combined effort of women throughout NSW benefits some project of a different church department or committee each year.

f) About the Presbyterian Women’s Association
The PWA is dedicated to the ideals of Service, Prayer and learning. The Manly PWA branch is very active in all the above Committee’s. Apart from fund-raising for those causes through Market Day on the Manly Corso, St. Andy’s Op Shop, and our prayer chain, the PWA offers a thriving social programme which includes lunches, dinners, concerts and fellowship opportunities with other PWA branches.
